Depends on your definition of spam I suppose 🙂
I have always found the Gmail filters pretty reliable, and the ones that slip through I report pretty quickly. My Gmail inbox started to look like it was in a bad way last week so I deleted all instances of a few newsletter subscriptions to get myself down to 83%. Might have a crack at doing more later.
In any case I would say 50% of the space is taken up by newsletters and mailing lists (Spam-L and the like). I don’t think I am unique in using Gmail as yet another file storage/backup solution… I wonder if that is a big part of Mikes inbox too?
