At Word to the Wise, one of our core values is teaching people. In all of our consulting engagements, we dedicate time to explaining the underlying reasons for our recommendations and ensuring our clients understand the decisions they’re making. We’ve hosted community discussions to explain core deliverability concepts to our colleagues and peers. We’ve written hundreds of thousands of words on deliverability here on our blog.
Individual training
Deliverability is crucial to the success of email marketing campaigns; if mail doesn’t reach the inbox, then all the work and effort of crafting the message is wasted. Most email marketers have experienced deliverability challenges and questions at some point in their careers. Who do they turn to for answers? Deliverability experts.
When Laura first started consulting with marketers to help them resolve deliverability and blocklist problems, there was no such thing as a career in deliverability. But over time, she’s watched the industry grow to where we’re essential to the email marketing industry. Millions of senders deliver billions of emails every day thanks to the work done by thousands of deliverability professionals.
For those of us who work as deliverability experts, one of the biggest challenges is learning all the various pieces, how they fit together and how changing one bit affects all the other bits. Deliverability at scale is massively complex with lots of moving pieces. Let’s face it, most of us are self-taught. We’ve learned on the job, researched questions independently and discussed problems and solutions with our colleagues.
Despite our importance to the billion-dollar email marketing industry, deliverability experts are primarily self-taught. We use peer support, public information, private forums and personal experience to learn what we need to do our jobs. Putting it bluntly, we’ve mostly made this up as we’ve gone along.
We are changing that.
Laura started consulting on deliverability since 2001 and in that time has helped peers and colleagues build this industry from the ground up.
Together we’re building deliverability courses focused on bringing the information we’ve learned into a coherent model of email and filters to make this career path less chaotic and more fulfilling for everyone.
The first set of courses are designed for deliverability professionals. These courses are designed to focus on one specific deliverability topic and talk about it from every angle. Topics like Reputation. Troubleshooting. Engagement. Authentication. Blocklists.
Classes will be virtual and cohort-based. Participants will have the opportunity to meet and work with peers in the industry. In addition to the formal training, attendees will have the opportunity to talk about current delivery problems with peers and with Laura. Together we’ll grow our knowledge and our careers.
